Septoplasty (Breathing)

What Is Septoplasty?

Septoplastic is an operation to fix a deviated septum. The septum is a bone and cartilage wall that divides the two nostrils. If the septum is moved to one side of the nasal passage, it is a deviated or “crooked” septum. It may cause respiratory difficulties and reduced ventilation due to nasal airways obstruction, resulting in persistent dry mouth, intensified snoring, poorer resistance to workout, and declining overall standard of living. The air movement into our nose often impacts sense of smell.

The septum is straightened and readjusted in the center of the nose during septoplastic surgery. This technique which require cutting and separating the septum sections until they are reinserted into the corrective position. Septoplastic treatment may also be paired with rhinoplastic technique to reshape, resize or redefine the nose (this is called septorhinoplasty). The physician will enable you to settle on operation to ease your pain and symptoms.

This technique is an efficient method to clear the nasal passages by stratifying the septum, and may be accomplished with or without additional nasal modifications.

Many patients don’t even know how limited their breathing lives are until after operation

Nasal airway operation signs can involve:

  • External nasal valve impairment.
  • Internal nasal valve impairment
  • Septal deviation
  • Septal spur formation
  • Septal excavation
  • Septal shortcomings
  • Lower hypertrophy turbinate
  • Concha bullosa middle turbinate
  • Nasal weight or polyp

Recovery After Septoplasty

You will go home the same day as your procedure.

Most patients experience reduced discomfort even throughout the rehabilitation process, enabling them to restart full service within a couple of weeks. In less than a week, most patients will return to work. Typical for patients during the operation, is that they should not have external bleeding. Blood or mucus leak is likely during operation to drain from the nostrils, but it is a natural part of the cure.

What Are the Benefits of Nasal Septoplasty Surgery?

  • Improved breathing – the average breathing efficiency is enhanced significantly when the nasal passage expands.
  • Improved sleeping comfort  – rehabilitating a tangled septum not only increases breathing when you’re awake, it also inhibits or prevents snoring and/or sleep apnea and enhances quality of sleep.
  • Lower infections of the sinus  – widening of the airways may enable mucus to flow from formerly limited or partly obstructed sinuses.
  • Enhanced senses  – this treatment will enhance all senses in individuals with a previously compromised ability to smell or taste owing to the impact of a deviated septum.

Can I Combine Rhinoplasty & Septoplasty Surgeries?

In many cases, patients who are planning to undergo septoplasty often decide to include rhinoplasty simultaneously. This prevents patients from having to pay for a second round of anesthesia and hospital fees, and it cuts back on the total amount of recovery time.
If you are looking to enhance the appearance of your nose while dealing with structural issues from a deviated septum, this combination is highly recommended.
